Filing Requirements

Please be advised that the Court does not accept inquiries, document filing or other correspondence by email.  All inquiries must be made by phone during normal business hours or by written request by mail with a postage-paid envelope included.  Unless prior permission is received to file by alternate method due to Court emergency/closure or filer is a registered ECF user, all documents must be in paper format and sent by mail or submitted in-person at the Bankruptcy Clerk's Office in Louisville.

Documents sent/submitted by mail must be received by the staff of the Clerk's Office prior to the expiration of any deadline associated with the document. Mail sent to the Clerk's Office, even when the submitting party pays for expedited mailing and/or signature confirmation, are not delivered to the Clerk's Office. All deliveries, including mail, are subjected to security screenings and protocols both at the entrance to and once inside the federal courthouse. Court Security Officers may sign for mail during screening but will then only leave the items in a dedicated "mail drop" area. Although the Clerk's Office checks for new mail routinely and even multiple times a day, as we are not notified when mail is placed in the mail drop and it is also possible for mail to be delayed in security screening due to staff availability, if you are uncertain as to whether a document has been received timely, we recommend you call. The Court cannot record any document as filed based on the date you mailed it or even the date it was routed to security personnel in the building; we can only consider and mark it filed when a Clerk's Office staff member has opened it, reviewed it, and determined it acceptable for filing.
